We have been recognised in three states as a preferred contractor delivering safe quality assured services and we are acknowledged as an innovative partner in developing distribution infrastructure solutions. We have worked in each of these states with the electricity distributors to improve contractor reporting and work procedures.
Innovation and customer solutions have been our trademark. In Darwin, the Fannie Bay project, which involved the undergrounding of electricity mains in a residential and business district, allowed us to use our 'ductway bed' system. This system which we patented in 1996, minimises disruption to business and existing services, and generates demonstrable savings when compared to the similar projects. It was commended by PAWA staff as well as the local businesses affected over the duration of the project. Our quote for that work was 30% lower than other contractors. Numerous other projects whether it was undergrounding feeder exits or 11kV cable in Darwin City have demonstrated our capabilities and the ability of our staff to work with and understand PAWA standards and specifications. We also assisted PAWA in developing test and energizing processes for U/D work.
In Cairns we have constructed a purpose built office and depot facility to help the business meet the operational requirements of our growing business. The new facility houses the centralised Administration services, Senior Management team, purpose built Conference/Training/Meeting room and the Cairns work crews.
The Cairns business is a joint venture between Fitzgerald Power Pty Ltd (Underground) & Electrix Pty Ltd (Overhead).
- The JV currently has a contract with Ergon Energy to provide construction and maintenance services for underground and overhead assets.
- We have quite a significant share of the underground contestable market which is predominately construction of underground sub-division projects.
- The overhead section is also quoting and winning private overhead projects.
We have recently been approved as a preferred contractor with Rio Tinto in Weipa, this gives us the opportunity to offer Rio Tinto a resource to complete planned maintenance and new capital projects for them.
